Course Description:

Infection Control and Prevention course will provide a comprehensive understanding of all scientifically accepted infection control standards. The course provides evidenced-based, latest statistical information and various infection control practices that ensure a safe, healthy working environment for both staff and patients in any healthcare setting. The course will also provide appropriate risk management on the COVID-19 virus infection and with this knowledge, they will be fully capable of safely managing infection risks and ensuring everyone’s wellbeing.

Upon completion of this course, the participants should be able to:

  1. Explain and gain knowledge of current, evidence-based information on preventing and controlling the spread of infection.
  2. Understand the principles of administrative controls and establish exclusion policies from work and patient contact to prevent infections.
  3. Understand the role and implement strategies intended to reduce the risk of preventable diseases in the healthcare setting & hazard in the workplace.

This is a course designed for an audience of Health Care Workers in all Multidisciplinary Health Care Hospitals, Centers, Clinics, and Laboratories including Infection Control Practitioner, health care providers, supervisors of health facilities in medical and nursing, as well as to facility administrators.

MODULE 1: Introduction to Infection Control

  • Define the Infection, the sources of infection, and understand the various ways that infection may be transmitted.

MODULE 2: The Chain of Infection

  • Explain the infectious disease process (Chain of infection): organisms; reservoir; portal of exit; mode of transmission; portal of entry; and vulnerable host.

MODULE 3: Infection Control and Prevention – Standard Precautions

  • Explain methods and precautions to prevent the spread of infection.

MODULE 4: Infection Control and Prevention – Transmission-Based Precautions

  • Implement strategies for Standard and Transmission-Based Precautions in healthcare settings.

MODULE 5: Sharps and Injection-Related Practices and Controls

  • Describe the reasons and factors behind unnecessary and unsafe injection practices.

MODULE 6: Healthcare-Associated Infections

  • Understand the rationale for and develop policies and practices intended to prevent or minimize healthcare-associated infections in healthcare setting.

MODULE 7: Safe Environment: Waste Management, Cleaning, Disinfecting, and Sterilizing

  • Describe the cleaning, sterilization and disinfection of Patient Care Items and its procedure.

MODULE 8: New Technologies in Infection Control in The Healthcare Setting

  • Understand the principles of and implement new technologies in infection control in the healthcare setting.

MODULE 9: Infection Prevention and Control for Health Care Workers Caring for Patients with Suspected or Confirmed Covid-19

  • Understand the Interim Infection Prevention and Control recommendations and its role in the context of preparedness, readiness, and response.

MODULE 10: Personal Protective Equipment for Infection Control in The Care and Management of Covid- 19 Patients

  • Identify the need for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during COVID-19.
