
This continuing education course covers risk factors and assessment of pressure ulcers, including those common to diabetic patients. Prevention, staging, wound treatment, and management of pressure ulcers are discussed along with factors affecting healing.
Wound Care and Pressure Ulcer Management is a lecture-based course designed to translate new evidence-based knowledge into practice with the aim of providing healthcare workers basic knowledge and skills in assessing, preventing, and managing wounds and pressure ulcers.
Upon completion of this course, the participants should be able to:
- Discuss and increase knowledge of multidisciplinary approach, evidence-based best practice regarding the prevention and treatment of wounds and tissue repair in all aspects of wound and pressure ulcer management.
MODULE 1: Introduction to Wound Care Management
- Describe the etiology and pathophysiology of wound development.
MODULE 2: Guidelines for Wound Care Management
- Develop and demonstrate comprehensive initial assessment and evaluation of the wound (site, size, surface, grade and appearance, exudate type and volume, state of surrounding skin and level of wound pain).
MODULE 3: Type of Wounds
- Discuss and recognize the classifications and different type of wounds.
MODULE 4: Pressure Ulcer Management
- Identify patients at risk of developing pressure ulcers.
MODULE 5: Pressure Ulcer Prevention
- Discuss methods for implementing pressure ulcer prevention and treatment protocols in practice.
MODULE 6: Pressure Ulcer Treatment
- Assess and demonstrate how to treat wound problems once they develop.
MODULE 7: Healing Assessment and Documentation
- Draft Lesson
Identify and explain the systemic factors that impact on wound healing, and implications for practice.
